The Bird Fancyer's Delight - For Wind Quintet

"The Bird Fancyer's Delight" was first published in 1717 in America as an instruction manual for the teaching of singing to caged birds using the then popular flageolet. I have used some of the tunes in this beguiling collection as material for the dialogue between the players.

Tango in D - Oboe (or soprano sax) and Piano

An entertaining single dance movement for soprano saxophone and piano.

Also chosen by AMEB (Australian Syllabus).

It has a piano accompaniment and is also supplied with a part for soprano saxophone.
It has a lively feel with oboe and piano working in equal partnership - the left hand of the accompaniment ranges over the 10th so often associated with this style and the oboe is given plenty of opportunity for expressive ornamentation. Plenty of material to make this worth looking closely at. Sheet Music Magazine

Tango in D has a good lilt with a singable melodic line and interesting accompaniment that is not too difficult. Association of Woodwind Teachers

Tango in D is a great little piece for Oboe. Music Teacher Magazine

Solo works for the soprano are of course not as plentiful as for the alto instrument; Tango is a short essay in the medium. The chosen key leads to interesting excursions, and overall the piece is a good rhythmic and tonal study. Richard Ingham
